Benefits of a High Speed Internet Connection

Today there is lots of talk about the benefits of high speed internet connections. The benefits are many, but not everyone is aware of why they might want or need a high speed or broadband internet connection.

High Speed Internet Connections
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) defines high speed or broadband internet as being connection speeds significantly higher than those allowed by dial-up connections, which are capped at 56 kilobits per second (Kbps). In general, a high speed internet connection is faster than 200 Kbps and connection speeds are as fast as 6.0 megabits per second (Mbps). Some of the faster connections are at speeds of 100 MB, via fiber-optic cable.

Typically, high speed internet to residential customers happens at two speeds: the speed for download or downstream data transmission, that is, from the internet to the user’s computer, is faster than the transmission of data from the user’s computer to the internet, called upload or upstream speed.
