Cablevision offers consumers high speed or broadband internet connections through their Optimum Online® subsidiary. The company’s current service area includes some part of
New York City, and the areas in the states of
Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, and
Pennsylvania. High speed
cable internet connections are delivered through the company’s existing cable television network infrastructure.
In order to have Optimum Online® deliver a broadband cable internet connection, the consumer will need to lease or purchase a specialized cable modem that will provide the connection between the coaxial cable and the consumer’s computer. As most homes and businesses are now wired for cable access, there usually is not other equipment that needs to be installed.
Like most high speed internet connections, there is an intentional discrepancy in data transmission speeds from the internet to the consumer’s computer – called downstream or download speeds – and from the consumer’s computer to the internet – called upstream or upload speeds; the download speeds are faster than the upload speeds.
