Broadband From Charter Communications

Charter Communications offers high speed internet access to consumers across 29 states. Charter’s internet services are carried on the company’s cable lines, which run to residential units and businesses.

Charter’s internet connections require the consumer to purchase or lease a cable modem and to have cable connectivity. Because the internet is provided on the existing cable infrastructure, there is no other equipment needed for the installation.

As is true for most internet connections, Charter’s data transmission rates vary. Upstream or uploading speeds – from the internet to the user’s computer – are faster than the downstream or downloading speeds – from the user’s computer to the internet.

Charter currently offers four tiers of high speed internet service from which the consumer can choose. All of the tiers offer the Charter Security Suite, 10-email accounts, and 1 gigabyte (GB) of storage for each email account.

Charter High Speed Internet Tiers

  • Lite – The Lite plan offers a maximum download speed of 1.0 megabits per second (Mbps) and a maximum upload speed of 128 kilobits per second (Kbps). This tier is best for basic website viewing and email.
  • Express – The Express tier offers a top download speed of 5.0 Mbps and a top upload speed of 1.0 Mbps. This tier works well for the intermediate internet user.
  • Plus – The Plus tier provides a maximum downstream data rate of 10 Mbps and a maximum upstream rate of 2.0 Mbps. This tier works well for the advanced user, who watches live streaming video, uploads and downloads a lot of files, or is involved with online gaming.
  • Max – The Max tier has a maximum downloading speed of 20 Mbps and a maximum uploading speed of 2 Mbps. This tier is best for the advanced user and for simultaneous internet usage by several heavy users.
