Broadband from Comcast
Serving high speed internet customers in 39 states, Comcast Corporation offers broadband connectivity through its cable infrastructure. Because Comcast already has existing cable lines into many residences and businesses, all that the consumer needs to do is to purchase or lease the cable modem; the company offers the consumer the option of a Do-It-Yourself kit for the home installation or having a trained technician do the work.
Connections speeds vary, with downloading or downstream (from the internet to the consumer’s computer) speeds being faster, typically, than the uploading or upstream (from the user’s computer to the internet) speeds. Comcast offers “PowerBoost” which provides bursts of speed in the initial connection. Like most high speed internet providers, Comcast has multiple speed / pricing tiers available for the consumer, so that the consumer can determine which is best for their individual needs.
Comcast High Speed Internet Pricing Tiers
- Performance Tier – With this tier, the maximum download speed is 12 megabits per second (Mbps) and the upload speed tops out at 2 Mbps. Using PowerBoost, those speeds are up to 15 Mbps for upload and 3 Mbps for download.
- Blast! Tier – The Blast! pricing tier provides a maximum downstream speed of 16 Mbps and a maximum upstream speed of 2 Mbps. With PowerBoost, those speeds increase to 20 Mbps for upstream and 4 Mbps for downstream activities.
- Ultra Tier – With the Ultra tier, 22 Mbps is the maximum downloading speed and 5 Mbps is the maximum uploading speed. Utilizing PowerBoost, those speeds increase to 30 Mbps for uploading and 7 Mbps for downloading.
- Extreme 50 Tier – The fastest connectivity speed currently available from Comcast is 50 Mbps for downloading or downstream activities and a maximum of 10 Mbps for uploading or upstream connections.
