Broadband Internet Without a Phone Line

It used to be that there was only one means of accessing the internet: through a dial-up connection that required a telephone line. Not only did a dial-up connection require that the user tie-up their phone line, but the connection speed was limited to 56 kilobits per second (Kbps), which makes for very slow internet access.

With the advent of digital subscriber line (DSL) technology, the consumer was able to be both online and on the phone at the same time, and connection speeds increased to the point of being what is considered high speed internet, but the user still needed to have a phone line available in order to connect.

High Speed Internet Without a Phone Line – Options
Thankfully, today there are many options for high speed internet without a phone line. Some of the more popular high speed internet options are:
-          Cable Internet
-          Satellite Internet
-          Wireless Internet
-          Fiber-Optic Cable

High Speed Internet – Cable Internet
Cable internet connections work through the existing cable television network infrastructure, negating the need for a phone line. Consumers need to have cable access and to install a specialized cable modem.

High Speed Internet – Satellite Internet
Satellite internet connections work well in rural and remote areas, allowing for high speed internet connections without needing to use the telephone line. Satellite internet users need to purchase or lease and install – or have professionally installed and aligned – an internet satellite dish and a satellite modem.

High Speed Internet – Wireless Internet
Wireless internet provides freedom of movement for the consumer, so they can connect to the internet without being tied to one spot because of phone lines or cable coax. The consumer will need to have access to a public or private wireless hot spot and an Ethernet card that will convert the internet data into radio waves.

High Speed Internet – Fiber-Optic Cable
Fiber-optic cable is another means of delivering a high speed internet connection without a phone line. This type of a connection requires that the consumer have access to a fiber-optic cable network and to install a special modem.
