Verizon FiOS® offers high speed internet connections by way of a fiber-optic network that connects directly to the consumer’s residence or place of business. Because data travels along, literally, at the speed of light, a fiber-optic internet connection is currently the fastest connection available. However, the FiOS program is only in limited availability at present, though Verizon is rapidly expanding their coverage areas, wiring new places with the fiber-optic lines.
The Verizon FiOS fiber-optic high speed internet is currently available at three different pricing and speed tiers. All tiers include premium installation, nine email accounts, and the server space to build a blog or website. Like digital subscriber line (DSL) and cable connections, there is a usually a difference between download or downstream (from the internet to the user’s computer) speed and the upload or upstream (from the user’s computer to the internet) speed. The two fastest plans include free wireless hotspot (Wi-Fi) connectivity for when the subscribing consumer is traveling.
