As demand for high speed internet access in Delaware (DE) grows, an increasing number of companies are stepping forth to provide broadband services to the communities in the state.

There are, currently, four primary methods for delivering high speed internet to consumers: digital subscriber line (DSL) technology, cable, fiber-optic, and satellite internet.
DSL
DSL technology utilizes existing telephone network infrastructure to provide the consumer with high speed internet access. The technology splits a regular phone line into high- and low-frequencies. The high-frequencies on the telephone line are used to transmit internet data and the low-frequencies are used for regular phone processes like making and receiving calls. The consumer needs to have a telephone line and a DSL modem to make use of DSL technology.
Cable
One of the more popular methods for delivering high speed internet connectivity to consumers is cable internet, which capitalizes on the existing cable television infrastructure. The consumer’s residence or business needs to be wired for cable and a cable modem.
Fiber-Optic Cable
Fiber-optic cable is the fastest way to deliver high speed internet to the consumer; it is also still in limited availability, though the companies offering such services are rapidly expanding the territory they serve. The consumer’s business or residence needs to be wired for fiber-optic cable and the consumer needs to have a fiber-optic modem.
Satellite Internet
Satellite internet access is popular in Delaware’s rural communities, as it offers high speed internet connections in areas where cable and DSL are not available. The consumer will need to purchase or lease a satellite modem and a satellite dish.
