Which internet providers in Minneapolis are the cheapest?

Xtream Powered by Mediacom offers the cheapest internet plan in the area, offering speeds up to 100 Mbps for $19.99 per month. That’s a steal and the price increases by just $10 after the promotional period. Gigabit plans are relatively cheap across the board, ranging from $65.00 to $70.00 per month, excluding Mediacom’s plan (it increases to $129.99 after the first 12 months). Xfinity’s 1,200 Mbps plan costs $80.00 per month, which isn’t bad until you factor in the extra $30 for unlimited data if you need it.

Minneapolis residential internet coverage

CenturyLink is a DSL and fiber internet provider in Minneapolis. It has the largest coverage in the entire Minneapolis metro area, the surrounding suburbs, and other outlying areas. Its fastest fiber plan reaches up to 940 Mbps, and its DSL internet service tops out at 140 Mbps.

Xfinity is a cable internet provider. It’s close behind in terms of coverage, but it falls short in the far eastern and western parts of the metro area. The coverage is not quite as widespread as CenturyLink, but all the major neighborhoods should get service. Its fastest cable internet speed is 1,200 Mbps.

Xtream Powered by Mediacom is another cable internet provider with a smaller presence in Minneapolis—mostly on the southwest side of the city. The speeds are also slower than Xfinity or CenturyLink. It’s a solid choice if you want to go with a smaller cable provider.

Viasat and Hughesnet satellite services are available in areas that don’t have landline access or for those who aren’t happy with the landline options. Satellite internet is slower and more expensive, however.

Highest-rated internet providers in Minneapolis

Xfinity is the highest-ranking national internet provider in overall satisfaction based on our annual customer satisfaction survey. It ranks in the top half of our list of 15 national internet providers, topping Xtream Powered by Mediacom and CenturyLink.

Of the three, Xfinity ranks the highest in every category in our survey: speed, reliability, price, customer support, and overall satisfaction. In fact, it grabs the top spot for speed satisfaction and stays in the top half for all other categories. Xfinity is the way to go if it’s available.

Xtream Powered by Mediacom and CenturyLink stay within the bottom half of every category in our survey except for price, where CenturyLink ranks fifth. However, it ranks at rock bottom in speed satisfaction.

Nigel P | 08-14-2023

The worst customer service I have come across in my 67 years on this planet. My modem stopped working on Thursday August 10th, 2023. I called them, went through all the checks, modem had failed. They said they would get one to me by 11th August. They sent me a confirmation email. No modem arrived on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. I called Century link this morning August 14th and after being cut off a couple of times I spoke to someone who said my modem would arrive today. At 4pm today the modem arrived. No surprise, the new modem is also useless and on the box it said refurbished. I called them again, and again I ent through all of the checks. He said I need a technician, ok, what time today is he arriving. The guy came back and said August 24th. My head is exploded and I told him that I had already been without the internet since the 10th. He went away and 5 minutes later he came back and said the earlies he could do was 22nd August. I asked to speak to a manager, he took my number and said someone would call me. They didn’t, so I called again, a lady answered, I asked politely to speak to a manager, she hung up. DO NOT USE CENTURY LINK FOR YOUR INTERNET. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS THE WORST. AFTER FIVE DAYS WITHOUT INTERNET THEY THEN TELL ME THAT I HAVE TO WAIT ANOTHER 9 DAYS. NO CALL BACKS AND ANOTHER DODGY MODEM. THIS IS. PATHETIC COMPANY, I AM SURPRISED THAT THEY KEPT ANY CUSTOMERS. USE THIS COMPANY AT YOUR PERIL. To add insult to injury, they just texted me, at my expense, that they were confirming the appointment for August 22nd.
