SkyWay USA vs. StarBand Comparison

There is increasing demand in remote and rural areas of the United States for high speed internet access. One of the most common means of providing broadband connectivity to rural communities is via high speed satellite internet connections. Two of the companies that provide this type of access are SkyWay USA and StarBand. Each of these companies require that the consumer install, or have professionally installed, a satellite dish and a satellite modem. Beyond that, though, they offer different services.
 
SkyWay USA
  • Offers four connection / speed plans from which the consumer can select.
  • Includes five free email accounts with each plan.
  •  Downstream or download speeds ranging from 256 kilobits per second (Kbps) to a maximum of 1.5 megabits per second (Mbps).
  • Offers service to all of the 48 contiguous states.
  • Consumers have the option of installing the satellite equipment themselves or having a professional install the equipment.
 
StarBand
  • Offers three connection  / speed plans from which the consumer can select.
  • Includes five to fifteen free email accounts, depending on which plan is selected.
  • Upstream or upload speeds ranging from 100 Kbps to a maximum of 256 Kbps.
  • Downstream or download speeds ranging from 500 Kbps to a maximum of 1.5 Mbps.
  • Offers service across the 50 United States, in addition to service in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
  • Company policy requires a professional technician to install the equipment.
