Broadband Internet From Verizon DSL
Verizon Online DSL – also known as Verizon High Speed Internet – is a digital subscriber line (DSL) based means of providing high speed internet to residential and commercial consumers. DSL technology utilizes the existing telephone infrastructure, including telephone lines and phone jacks, to provide non-dial-up internet connections. With DSL high speed internet connections, the telephone line is split into two bands: the lower-frequency bands are reserved for normal telephone communications and conversations and the higher-frequency bands are used to transmit information, data, voice, and video to (upstream or uploaded) and from (downstream or downloaded) the internet. This means that one phone line may be used, simultaneously, for conversation and internet usage.
Currently, Verizon DSL broadband internet connections are available in most areas where Verizon is the local telephone carrier. However, like all DSL connections, connection speed and connection clarity degrades the further the receiving modem is from the central office. Therefore, DSL connections are not available or advised for rural customers.
As is the case for most internet connections, Verizon DSL transmits data from the internet to the user’s computer at a more rapid rate than from the user’s computer to the internet.
Verizon DSL currently offers three different pricing and high speed internet connection speed plans from which the consumer can choose. A free modem may be included for all plans when the order is placed online. For the top two plans, wireless hotspot (Wi-Fi) coverage is included.
