Winston-Salem Residential Internet Coverage

In northcentral North Carolina, Winston-Salem is one of the largest cities in this state.

Fiber internet has become fairly accessible in this city, with Centurylink Prism providing coverage to much of the central and northern neighborhoods of the city. The network reaches the central areas of City Center, Brookwood, Park Terrace, and West Highlands. The network stretches to accommodate the northern neighborhoods of Baux Mountain, Old Hollow, and Beaver Dam.

The DSL network established by CenturyLink is identical, providing two options to people living in these neighborhoods.

National provider AT&T offers fiber, DSL, or both to all of Winston-Salem. The DSL network is considerably larger than the fiber network.

Through Windstream, those in the northwestern part of Winston-Salem can choose high-speed internet packages. Some of the neighborhoods served by this provider are Stanleyville, Bethania Station, and Valley View.

High-speed cable is available everywhere in Winston-Salem through Time Warner Cable.

Spectrum is by far the worst internet provider I have ever had and that includes when I had dial up service as a kid. We purchased the highest level of internet service that Spectrum offers since my husband and I work from home and both of our children are in virtual school due to the pandemic. The service is spotty on good days and nonexistent on others. There have been outages reported in our area every single month since we made the mistake of signing up with Spectrum. We have requested technicians come out on numerous occasions and have exchanged our equipment several times. No amount of equipment can compensate for lack of service. The technicians that came to our house however, were polite and apologetic about the terrible experience. We have also learned very quickly not to even bother with contacting Spectrum customer service (or more aptly the lack there of). 1 cs rep out 10 will be nice and pleasant, but the rest are miserable human beings that couldnā€™t care less about how their terrible service may be affecting your life. We had to purchase a jet pack from Verizon to provide internet service when Spectrum isnā€™t working. We rely upon that and using our phones as hot spots to get by. Spectrumā€™s cable service is as unreliable as their internet service. DVR only works occasionally, many channels that we have subscribed to will display an error code, and the cable has gone out entirely every single month since we subscribed. Do yourself a favor and go with AT&T, xFinity, DirecTV, or any other provider available to you. As soon as our contract is up, we will be doing the same.

Spectrum is the worst customer service I have ever encountered, in that it exists purely to frustrate the consumer. You are never transferred to the correct department or to someone who can actually solve your problem. It is a never ending labyrinth of frustration while you repeat yourself, in an effort, I'm sure to get you to give up and just take what you can get. Their team is trained to be kind in a way that comes across as disingenuous and condescending while providing no actual service or accountability.
