A high speed fiber-optic internet connection is truly as fast as the speed of light. It works through a special sort of cable that runs from the cable company to a node or to a business or residence.
Fiber-optic lines are made from pure glass, thin as a single strand of human hair, which are able to transmit data over a long distance. The data has been converted to light, which allows the new technology to deliver internet data at truly broadband speeds, speeds as fast as 100 megabits per second (Mbps).
The fiber-optic cables are highly flexible, making it easier to maneuver them in small places and around corners; they are also thinner than traditional cables. Because fiber-optic cables are non-flammable, they are not a fire hazard and do not cause electric shocks
