Is bundling Spectrum internet with a mobile plan really worth it? Our bundle guide has the full breakdown of how it all works.
Why is Spectrum handing out free cell phone service?
The rise of 5G has seen an increasing overlap between cellular and internet services, and cable providers have been working to compete against fiber and phone companies by launching their own mobile brands.
Spectrum is best known for its cable internet and TV packages. But it also has Spectrum Mobile—an MVNO phone carrier that uses Verizon’s network to give customers access to 4G LTE and 5G cellular service.
T-Mobile and Verizon have been coming directly for cable providers’ customers, dropping their prices and offering heaps of promos for their new 5G home internet plans. It makes sense that Spectrum would respond with its own generous bargain.

The Unlimited Mobile plan comes with unlimited talk, text, and data. You get 20GB of premium mobile data per month, giving you fast speeds over Verizon’s 4G LTE and 5G networks. The plan also includes hotspot tethering, and you can switch or cancel your plan anytime without fees.
Spectrum’s eligible internet plans start at $49.99 a month. The deal also gets you free Advanced Wi-Fi—a router and an app to manage it, a service that normally costs $5 a month. After 12 months, your Unlimited Mobile plan reverts to its normal monthly rate of $29.99.
