It’s official: bundling internet with wireless phone service is the new cool thing. These days, internet providers Xfinity, Optimum, Cox, and Spectrum all offer cell phone plans alongside their usual Wi-Fi packages. When you pair internet with one of these phone plans, you get discounts and deals along with solid service.

Cell carriers Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile also offer discounts when you combine a phone plan with internet plans.

Pairing your internet with your phone plan makes a lot of sense—it simplifies billing and costs you less overall. Also, you get reliable coverage and data for browsing and hotspotting. Here’s a detailed guide to the best phone plans possible from internet providers and the discounts and perks that come with them.

Why bundle your cell phone with your internet service?

You save money and simplify your billing process when you bundle your cell phone plan with internet service. Providers offer discounts and other deals when you combine your internet with one of their cellular plans, and having two services merged into one means it’s easier to keep track of what you’re paying for.

These types of mobile plans tend to be more straightforward compared to the flagship phone plans offered by cellular carriers. That means you get fewer perks and features, and your cell service isn’t as strong either. On the plus side, you pay a much lower price while still enjoying the fundamentals, like premium data and 5G cellular coverage. Some plans also include hotspot data.

Pros:

  • Cheaper monthly fees
  • Convenient billing
  • 5G access

Cons:

  • Less flexibility to upgrade
  • Less hotspot data
  • Weaker cell service (especially during network congestion)

How do cell phone-internet bundles work?

Xfinity, Spectrum, and Optimum primarily offer internet and cable TV service. But they also have branches that operate as “mobile virtual network operators” (MVNO), renting wireless network infrastructure from phone companies to provide cellular services under the internet providers’ brand names. The phone plans they offer are typically simplified versions of a package you would get from the main phone company.

Bundle packages from AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile are different because these companies are both internet providers and cellular carriers. In this case the provider isn’t an MVNO, it’s a full-service phone company, so you have more options and more features as far as the cellular plan you pick.

Customer satisfaction survey: Customers really like mobile bundles

An increasing number of internet customers have been bundling their Wi-Fi with a mobile plan, taking advantage of discounts and deals on mobile plans offered by their internet providers. That is one of the revelations to emerge from the results of our annual customer satisfaction survey.

TV bundles used to be the big thing in internet service, but those bundles have dropped steadily in popularity with the rise of streaming services and the dwindling number of bundle discounts. If you get a bundle, make it for a mobile phone plan.

Is a mobile bundle the same as a home phone bundle?

A mobile phone bundle is not the same as a home phone bundle. Mobile phone and internet bundles are a newer kind of deal that give you a discount (and sometimes other perks) when you pair your internet service with a cell phone plan from the same provider. Home phone bundles give you a break on your monthly bill when you combine internet with landline phone service.

Many internet providers sell landline phone packages, but these deals aren’t as common or cost-effective as they used to be during the days when landline phones were in wide use.

Xfinity internet and mobile bundles

Xfinity Mobile has only a few plans, which you can get if you’re also signed up for Xfinity internet. Despite the limited options, Xfinity has some of the best deals for mobile and internet bundles, with a monthly discount of $10 to $30 taking a nice chunk out of your internet bill. Xfinity Mobile works over Verizon’s cellular network and gives you 5G access so you can count on reliable service nationwide.

Take a look at our guide to Xfinity mobile and internet bundles for more juicy info.

Most cellular carriers reduce the price of additional lines when you add more lines, making it more cost-effective to add family members (or even friends) to the same phone plan. Xfinity charges just $30 per line when you have four lines. But even with a single line, you’re paying significantly less for an unlimited phone plan through Xfinity compared to Verizon’s name-brand plans.

Xfinity Mobile also offers By the Gig phone plans measured by the amount of premium data you get per month. Be careful with these because you get charged $15 for every additional gigabyte of data you use after you exceed your cap.

Pro tip: What is premium data?

Premium data is internet data that gives you 4G LTE and 5G speeds, ranging anywhere from 30 Mbps to 1,000 Mbps. When you don’t have premium data, your speeds are much slower, anywhere from 3 Mbps to well under 1 Mbps.

Cellular carriers often advertise their flagship plans as “unlimited,” meaning you get unlimited calls and text. Technically, these plans also give you unlimited internet data.

But in reality, almost all unlimited phone plans put a monthly cap on the amount of premium data you can use. Your internet then becomes useless for all but the most rudimentary activities until the next month starts.

Verizon internet and mobile bundles

When it comes to mobile options, internet providers like Xfinity operate as MVNOs (mobile virtual network operators), which means they basically slap their brand name onto the cellular infrastructure of a separate phone company. That’s not the case with Verizon, of course, which maintains its own wireless network. You can also get Verizon Fios fiber internet and Verizon’s new 4G LTE/5G internet. And when you combine internet and mobile, your customer loyalty is rewarded with various deals and discounts.

Verizon’s phone plans cost more than other providers in this guide, but you get more premium data and better cell service—you don’t get bumped to the back of the line during times of network congestion, as often happens with MVNO customers. You also get dedicated mobile hotspot data and tons of extra perks.

Unlimited Ultimate$75.00/mo.Unlimited (speeds never slowed)60GB (then reverts to 600 Kbps speeds)

On top of generous data allowances and extra data for hotspots, Verizon also offers extra perks like Disney+ Premium or 100GB of mobile hotspot data for an additional $10 per month. Not everyone is going to want or need these bells and whistles, but they come in handy if you stream a lot or frequently use a hotspot.

Verizon mobile and internet deals

$25 off monthly billSign up online for a Fios fiber or 5G Home Internet plan when you also have a qualifying unlimited Verizon wireless plan

Verizon is pushing its new 5G and 4G LTE internet services, and you can get a juicy discount on either if you have a qualifying phone plan. 5G Home Internet and 4G LTE Home Internet are both good deals already—and they cost $25 a month less than the normal price when you’re also signed up for a qualifying unlimited phone plan.

You can also get a discount on a Fios fiber internet plan, which is faster and arguably more reliable than Verizon’s budding 5G service. Customers who have a qualifying unlimited plan also get a $25 monthly discount when signing up for a qualifying Fios plan. Just make sure you have one of those phone plans before you sign up for the Fios internet plan, otherwise you don’t get the discount.

AT&T internet and mobile bundles

Like Verizon, AT&T is another cellular provider that doubles as an internet provider—along with phone plans, it also offers fiber internet plans with fast speeds and decent prices. AT&T doesn’t have any formal bundle deals, but you can get a price break through limited-time deals and discounts, which AT&T announces regularly.

Take a look at our comprehensive guide to AT&T mobile and internet bundles.

AT&T Unlimited Premium$85.99/mo.Unlimited (speeds never slowed)50 GB (then reverts to 128 Kbps speeds)

AT&T’s flagship phone plans are slightly less expensive than Verizon’s. They don’t have all the perks, but they still pack a punch with lots of data, extra data for hotspotting, and excellent cellular coverage. No need to worry about getting bumped to the back of the line in network-congested areas as might happen with an MVNO carrier.

T-Mobile internet and mobile bundles

T-Mobile is best known as the cellular “un-carrier,” of course, but its 5G Home Internet service means T-Mobile is now offering internet too. This fixed wireless internet setup gives you solid speeds and unlimited data for a great price, and you get a $20 discount on your monthly bill when you order it along with a Go5G Next, Go5G Plus, or Magenta MAX plan.

Unfortunately T-Mobile doesn’t have much by way of bundle offers right now, but take a look below to see what kind of cell phone plans you can get and how to qualify for a price break on T-Mobile 5G Home Internet.

Go5G Plus is T-Mobile’s most formidable phone plan. It comes with an unlimited amount of premium data at 4G LTE and 5G speeds, with no caps and no slowdowns. T-Mobile’s other phone plans are solid too—and a lot more affordable.

Optimum internet and mobile bundles

Optimum is a fiber and cable internet provider, but it’s also started to offer mobile phone plans just like Xfinity, Spectrum, and other internet providers. Optimum Mobile requires an internet plan to sign up and works over T-Mobile’s network, giving you 5G access and unlimited data.

You get a $15 break on your monthly bill just by bundling your internet with Optimum Mobile. The starting price is higher than other bundled mobile plans on this page, so in the end you’re still paying pretty much the same. But you can also get price breaks if you add more lines, and you have lots of opportunities to mix and match with bonus data.

Take a look at our guide to whether Optimum mobile and internet bundles are worth it.

We like the Unlimited plan because it comes with dedicated hotspot data—which you don’t always get from internet provider phone plans like these. You can also get a plan that comes with a single GB of data for just five bucks a month, which is super cheap.

Spectrum internet and mobile bundles

Spectrum Mobile plans are very similar to what you get from Xfinity Mobile; both carriers use Verizon’s network, provide 5G access, and have decent pricing for basic cellular plans. Spectrum doesn’t offer bundle deals, unfortunately, and the By the Gig plan might not be as cost-effective as it initially seems. But this is a nice option if you have Spectrum Internet, which is required to sign up.

Get the full scoop in our guide to Spectrum mobile and internet bundles.

By the Gig 1 GB (max 2 lines)$14.00/mo.1 GB (after 5 GB speeds reduced to 256 Kbps)SD

Spectrum gives you the option to upgrade to an Unlimited Plus plan, which gives you more premium data each month. Also, you pay less per line when you add more lines to your plan. All in all this is a solid plan, similar in price and features to Xfinity Mobile and other MVNOs.

By the Gig plans look cheap, but if you exceed your single GB data cap, you pay an extra $14 for each additional GB of data you use. Also, you can’t use more than 5 GB in a month; after that, your speeds slow to a snail’s pace. So only get this plan if you mostly stick to Wi-Fi and use only a tiny amount of phone data in a month.

Cox internet and mobile bundles

Like Spectrum and Xfinity, Cox uses Verizon’s network to get you cellular coverage, including 5G access. You can choose between the By the Gig plan (in which you pay a set fee each month for a gigabyte of phone data) or the monthly Gig Unlimited plan.
