Best Xfinity Mobile plans

We like Xfinity Mobile because it’s the first service we’ve seen in years that can honestly cut down costs. We also like that it’s not pushing people to upgrade to the latest phone. You can bring your own phone or shop for a new one, but there isn’t the same type of pressure to upgrade that you might experience with other carriers. Plus, as a new Xfinity internet customer you can get one line of Mobile Select included at no extra cost, making it a solid budget-friendly option.

Is Xfinity Mobile for everyone? Probably not. People who use a lot of data or don’t live or work near Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots might end up needing extra data, which would make this carrier a lot less of a bargain.

How good is Xfinity Mobile service?

Xfinity Mobile is designed to leverage Verizon’s network and Xfinity’s nationwide hotspots into one single money-saving package. The plans automatically connect your phone to any available Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspot, which keeps data usage to a minimum.

One thing to keep in mind is that Xfinity Mobile is available only to Xfinity customers as part of a bundle. You must have Xfinity internet service to sign up for a mobile phone plan. The advantage to this is that it waives the line fee. Carriers like Verizon and AT&T can charge $20 per month, per line, which you pay on top of the data package. Xfinity Mobile has no monthly line fee, which will save you $20 per line.

The last thing to keep in mind with Xfinity Mobile is that there’s no family plan or multiline discount. If you have multiple lines and need a plan for each line, you’ll save more with other providers.

Pros

  • Competitive pricing
  • 5G included
  • Option to share data between phones
  • No contracts

Cons

  • Limited device selection
  • No family plan discounts
  • No way to sign up without a subscription to Xfinity internet*

Xfinity Mobile plans

Xfinity Mobile offers two phone plans: Mobile Select or Mobile Plus. Neither include a monthly line access fee, which is where the savings begin.

Xfinity’s Mobile Select plan gives you data that cannot be shared between lines. You’ll get 15GB of Verizon’s data at full speed. After 15GB, data will be slowed to unlimited 3G speeds. However, with Xfinity Mobile, you do have the Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots you can hop on for faster speeds on the go.

Both Xfinity Mobile plans include free talk and text nationwide. One thing we really like is that it’s possible to switch between plans anytime you want without a penalty. This is pretty unique in the mobile industry, and if you keep on top of it, you can use it to save money.

As a new Xfinity internet customer, you’ll get to try one line of Mobile Select for a year. One line of Mobile Select will be included with your internet plan at no extra cost, but you could also opt for the Mobile Plus plan for just $15 per month during your first year. After twelve months,  the standard rate will apply, but you’ll still get a solid deal on mobile compared to other carriers.

Xfinity Mobile tech

Xfinity Mobile brings you all the advantages of a Verizon plan at a lower price, including the Verizon 4G LTE and 5G networks. It’s also less expensive than typical cellular plans because it’ll auto connect to Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots whenever possible, saving you on data.

As far as new phone selection goes, Xfinity carries many popular models with a wide array of options. Installment plan pricing is about the same as other carriers (and sometimes even a few dollars more). The Xfinity Mobile savings come from the data plans that let you use Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots, not the phone purchase model.

Pro tip:

If you’re looking to upgrade your phone, opt for a trade-in if your device is eligible and you could get a discount on a new phone.

Phones

If you want to reap the biggest money-saving benefits of this plan, we recommend either bringing your existing phone with you into the plan or buying a phone outright. Only certain phones can transfer over, so this isn’t the type of plan you can use to get inexpensive mobile service for your kids using outdated phone models.

Xfinity Mobile offers some of the most popular models, but if you want an unusual device, you won’t be able to buy it or even bring it with you to an Xfinity Mobile plan.

Here are some of the phone brands Xfinity Mobile carries.

  • iPhone
  • Galaxy
  • Pixel
  • Moto
  • LG
  • Razr

Networks

Xfinity Mobile utilizes Verizon’s 4G LTE and 5G network, which is the largest and fastest in the US. You’ll get priority access to the network, even though you’ll be paying lower prices than Verizon customers.

Hotspots

Xfinity Mobile relies on Xfinity’s Wi-Fi hotspot network, which is why you need to have Xfinity internet to get Xfinity Mobile. By using the hotspots, you’ll find you use much less data than you would otherwise.

If you travel outside of Xfinity coverage areas, you won’t have the free Wi-Fi hotspots you’re used to. This can cause a heavy drain in data usage, which will cost you. The good news is you can upgrade to Unlimited anytime, and then switch back the next month without any penalty. That’s a big help when you’re traveling.

Our verdict on Xfinity cellphone plans

If you’re already an Xfinity customer, switching your mobile phone to Xfinity’s plan could save you money each month. Xfinity Mobile plans are a good fit for singles or couples who don’t use a lot of data on their phones. We like the cost-saving benefits this plan can offer to people serious about saving on their phone bill.

Xfinity Mobile isn’t a good fit for most families since it doesn’t offer any kind of family or multiple line discount. It’s possible to share data between phones, but if you have kids sharing your data, this could cause some stress. If Xfinity Mobile added a family plan, we’d be willing to bet that a lot of people would switch over.
