Q: Is there a contract requirement for AT&T internet services?

Generally, no. AT&T’s internet services do not require a contract. You can cancel at any time without paying an early termination fee. However, AT&T’s fee sheet indicates there may be special offers that require a contract and are subject to an early termination fee. Be sure to read all disclaimers before you sign up for a new service.

Q: Does AT&T charge for equipment?

There are no equipment fees when you sign up for new AT&T Fiber or AT&T Internet Air service. The same also applies to its DSL and legacy fixed wireless services, if they’re still offered to new customers in your area. But you don’t get to keep the equipment for free. AT&T charges a Non-Return Equipment Fee of up to $200 for gateways and up to $65 for each Wi-Fi extender if you cancel your service and don’t return the equipment.

Q: What are the installation fees for AT&T internet services?

AT&T charges $99 for professional installation. You can get a self-installation kit for no extra charge, but your home must already be wired for internet. A $99 Assistance Fee is applied if you run into problems setting up the equipment and a technician comes out to complete the installation.

Q: How fast is AT&T internet?

According to its broadband nutrition label, AT&T’s fiber internet reaches speeds up to 5,200Mbps, although the fastest speed you’ll get on a single wired device is 4,700Mbps due to the limitations of the gateway’s multi-gig Ethernet port. AT&T’s Internet Air 5G wireless service reaches up to 225Mbps.
