What Internet Provider Has the Best Price Locks?

Price guarantees sound great—but what’s the catch, and are they really worth it?

If you’re looking for the best price lock or guarantee in town or at least, hopefully, in your town, T-Mobile’s 5G Home Internet and fiber plans are tough to beat. Quantum Fiber’s Price for Life guarantee is technically the longest guarantee out there, but its limited availability and strict promotion details can’t go toe-to-toe with T-Mobile’s vast footprint and flexibility. Verizon Fios offers plenty of perks to make its guarantee that much more appealing, but Xfinity offers the best availability.

A price guarantee is currently one of the few tools customers can use to shield themselves from pesky price hikes and is more than worthwhile. Most guarantees are applied at no extra cost, as long as the promotion is active. Let’s take a look at the details of these guarantees.

How we compare price guarantees and price locks

So, what’s the difference between a price lock and a price guarantee? Well, it really is just a difference in terminology—they’re both meant to keep your internet price from skyrocketing, at least temporarily.

Keep in mind, we aren’t comparing and picking the best plan from a certain provider. We’re examining and evaluating price locks and guarantees offered by internet providers as a whole and what the guarantee encompasses. We looked at the top nine nationwide internet providers that offered a price guarantee and compared them side by side.

Promotion length

We exclude any and all price locks or promotion periods that only last 12 months or less—because, let’s be real, a one-year promo is super common and nothing to write home about. While we took into consideration all price locks over a year, the shortest in our lineup is two years.

What’s included, extra perks, and the nitty-gritty terms and conditions

We look at the fine print to understand all the terms and conditions for each promotion to verify any exclusions or requirements that could impact a variety of customers, like requiring the addition of multiple mobile lines or a TV plan—because that’s a bundle, not a price guarantee deal. We also evaluated any contract requirements for a price guarantee, since that could possibly lead to early termination fees.

Some price guarantees include equipment and devices, while others require customers to pay an additional monthly rental fee that can vary. These extra costs can add up quickly, so any price guarantee that included equipment received well-deserved brownie points.

We looked at what exactly the price lock or guarantee included, whether that was equipment costs, taxes, or any extra fees that could be added and vary year by year.

Nationwide footprint

If a provider was restricted to small local networks, we cut them from the list because why tempt customers with a provider they probably will never be able to enjoy? It’s important to evaluate all your local options for internet providers, even if we don’t list them here, because you might end up getting a better deal from a regional provider.

Eligibility and exclusions

We took into account who was eligible for a price lock and guarantee, since some include new and existing customers, while other promotions were solely for new customers.

Most internet prices nowadays will include some sort of autopay, paperless billing, or debit discount. This discount can range from anywhere from $5 to $10, but we did not factor in discounts when ranking price guarantees. All guarantees lock your rate in at whatever it is when you sign up for a plan, at least for the providers that made our list.

Promotion application across plans and restrictions

We took into consideration the scope of each price guarantee from the provider’s side, evaluating if all or most plans offered were eligible. If a guarantee was gatekept for only the most expensive plans or bundles, that was a con in our books. If a provider applies the same price guarantee across the board with all of the plans, bonus points!

What happens to the price guarantee if you move

Lastly, and surprisingly, the most difficult information to collect was what would happen with a price guarantee if you have to move and change the service address. Some providers disclosed this information in disclaimers, but for most, this information was nowhere to be found throughout the websites.

We conducted an online chat with a customer service agent from every provider on our list to verify exactly what would happen with a price lock or guarantee if you make a move during the promotion period—I myself have moved five times in the last five years, so we know how important being able to keep a provider throughout a move is. If the guarantee is tied only to a service address and is discontinued the second you make a change, we made note of that.

Best overall internet price guarantee: T-Mobile

T-Mobile offers the best overall price guarantee that spans across each and every one of its internet plans—even the newly added fiber internet plans. You don’t have to opt for the most expensive plan to get this deal, like you would with Verizon and Optimum. Plus, you won’t have to pay a higher monthly rate to lock in a longer price guarantee like you would with Xfinity, either.

If you’re lucky enough to live in an area where T-Mobile Fiber Founders Club is available, you can get 2Gbps speeds for just $70 per month with a whopping 10-year price guarantee. Best of all, if you end up moving, your guarantee will carry over—we confirmed this with a T-Mobile customer support agent through an online chat. Your guarantee will carry over as long as you are on an eligible plan, and luckily, that encompasses all T-Mobile plans.

A wide range of speeds from 300Mbps all the way up to 2,000Mbps, a gateway or router included with all plans, and a guarantee that’s available to both new and existing customers? That’s tough for any internet provider to beat. T-Mobile has a vast coverage area that continues to grow and expand, making the deal that much sweeter.

Best long-term guarantee: Quantum Fiber

Quantum Fiber’s Price for Life guarantee is a phenomenal deal for those who plan to stick around their address for a while. This lifetime guarantee is offered to both new and existing customers, making it noteworthy and accessible. If you’re in your forever home and plan to remain there for some time, Quantum Fiber’s Price for Life guarantee can help you stabilize your internet costs long-term. You can get speeds from 500Mbps all the way up to an insane 8,000Mbps, giving customers various options for crazy-fast speeds.

Before you lock in your plan, be sure to sign up for speeds that will fit your needs because any change in your account or plan could result in losing your guarantee. You’ll get to keep your monthly rate as long as you keep your plan, but Quantum Fiber does specify that moving, even if your plan is available at your new address, could terminate your Price for Life guarantee, sort of making it more of a price until you move guarantee. But again, this is still a great deal for those looking to settle down in one home for a while.

Quantum Fiber doesn’t have nearly as large a coverage map as T-Mobile, but it still has decent coverage that ranges across 16 states. The Price for Life guarantee won’t cover leased equipment, but customers can take control of their home network devices by purchasing equipment.

Best budget-friendly price lock: Breezeline

Price is one of the most important factors when it comes to choosing an internet plan, and if you’re looking for the cheapest internet plan with a price guarantee, Breezeline has you covered. You’ll get a two-year price guarantee with the Internet 100 plan for just $20 per month—making it one of the cheapest internet plans on the market.

While 100Mbps isn’t a lot of speed, it’s plenty for single users or smaller households with few devices that need internet connections. You’ll even get a gateway device included during the first two years, but be ready to pay for equipment once the guarantee expires. The two-year price guarantee is only available to new customers, but it is still a great way to lock in cheap internet for a while.

Best price guarantee for extra perks: Verizon Fios

If you want to get a price guarantee that will come with extra perks, Verizon Fios takes the cake. All Fios plans currently come with an extra $15 bill credit for 36 months—that’s an additional discount of $540 over three years, plus no price hikes. The price guarantee is available for both new and current customers, but the bill credit is only available for new customers.

You’ll also get equipment included with any plan at no extra cost, and you’ll get to keep your price guarantee if you move. With Fios’ all-in pricing, you won’t have to worry about taxes or hidden fees. If you opt for a Fios 1 or 2 Gig plan, you can get a Nintendo Switch or a streaming bundle with Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN+ with ads for an entire year.

If you want to max out your Fios perks, you can add a mobile line and get an extra $15 off your monthly bill. That’s $30 off your bill if you combine both promotions. We chatted with a sales agent online just to verify this was possible, and it is! The $15 bill credit is only available until Jan. 1, 2026, so run over to Verizon and snag a Fios plan to lock in your perks and savings.

Best for availability: Xfinity

If you’re a constant mover or want to opt for the provider with the largest availability, Xfinity will be your best choice. Xfinity is the largest cable internet provider in the country and a safe bet when it comes to reliability. While you may need to pay a little more each month to lock in the five-year price guarantee compared to the standard one-year guarantee, you’ll be saving more money in the long run since post-promo pricing with Xfinity can cost a pretty penny.

You won’t have to worry about your internet plan or provider not being available at your new address with Xfinity, and you’ll get a wide range of speed options all the way up to 2,000Mbps. If you move, your guarantee will carry over to your new address. Xfinity’s five-year price guarantee is only available for a limited time and only for new customers, like most other price locks. But you can always opt for the usual one-year promo they offer.

Final call: Right now, price locks are worth it

There are very few internet providers that don’t unleash price hikes, and you can consider yourself lucky if your internet bill increases by only a few dollars instead of almost doubling. Most internet plans carry a promotion period of 12 months with a significant price increase once that period is over. A price lock helps you avoid price hikes—even if it’s just for a few years.

Not all providers offer the same price locks in all areas, so if you see a price lock or guarantee that sounds intriguing, we say lock it down before it disappears. A lot of these promotions are available for a limited time, but might come and go as a provider sees fit. But no matter what way you slice it, a price lock brings stability to internet prices—even if taxes and extra fees will always vary. Until we see all promotional pricing and price hikes disappear, a price lock is more than worthwhile.

Methodology

We built a database specifically for price guarantees and price locks that last at least two years to compare between providers. We used pricing and disclaimer data from our HighSpeedInternet.com internet plan database, and we navigated through the cart experience for each provider to gather our data.

While most disclaimers and broadband labels provide information for price guarantees and promotions, others missed the key information we look for. Only a few providers disclosed what would happen to a price guarantee if a customer moved, so we chatted online with customer service reps from each provider to answer this and any other questions that were not answered on provider websites.

Once we had the information we needed to rank and evaluate each price guarantee, we prioritized our data points with categories that impacted customers the most. First and most importantly, we evaluated the nationwide footprint and availability of each provider and the guarantee offered, as well as an in-depth analysis of the promotion eligibility and exclusions.

We then evaluated restrictions and promotion applications across all plans, since we know some promotions carry hefty restrictions that can impact customers’ ability to fully obtain what is promised to them. We also evaluated if guarantees were transferable if a customer moved to a new address, because for some promotions, changing your address could end your guarantee.

We know each household has different priorities and needs when it comes to picking an internet plan and provider. We selected best overall, best long-term, best budget, best for perks, and best availability as our award categories to hit various needs that impact households when it comes to picking an internet plan.
