Best Value Internet Provider of 2026: Optimum
Switching to Optimum slashes internet bills by 60%

Annual Review

Internet plan prices are trending in the right direction in 2026. We’ve seen a huge decrease in average plan costs, but the market is still riddled with bait-and-switch promotions that pull customers in only to raise rates 12 months down the road. This year’s Best Value internet service provider (ISP) ditches all that, opting instead for mind-blowingly low rates that stick around for the long haul.
Optimum is redefining what budget-friendly pricing looks like in 2026. Its rates are up to 60% cheaper than the average internet plan, and it guarantees those rates for up to five years. This is unheard of in the internet market. We’ve seen cheap rates before, but they’re accompanied by astoundingly short promo periods. Price locks are more common, but not for internet plans this affordable. There’s no catch here; the plans are just as fast and reliable as the competition’s. Optimum customers just pay less.
By offering the best of both worlds, Optimum has set its customers up to save thousands of dollars while enjoying fast and smooth internet connections. Optimum’s 2026 offerings are simply the best deals we’ve encountered for internet customers … ever.

How we determine internet plan value
Our value methodology focuses primarily on plan pricing and what each plan delivers to customers. We thoroughly analyze the prices, speeds, and policies of all the country’s major internet providers, digging all of the secrets out of the fine print in order to provide customers with a comprehensive and clear picture of what they can expect for their money.
Next, we look at how those prices change over time. Very few internet plans use static pricing and instead bake price hikes into most contracts. You can find flat-rate plans without price hikes, but these services are commonly too expensive or too slow. Plus, your prices could still increase if the ISP simply raises costs for all customers. This year’s Best Value ISP is an exception in this regard, fixing low rates for five years with no downsides.
Finally, we tailor our methodology for the average customer. We’re more interested in plans that make sense for households of one to six people over cheap but painfully slow plans or plans that offer multi-gig speeds for prices that are technically a good deal but are still too high for a household on a budget.
Best internet plan pricing in the US
Like any stellar deal, the story starts with unprecedentedly low pricing. Optimum internet plans deliver the best rates in the country for internet customers. We were genuinely shocked when comparing Optimum pricing with its competitors, as we’ve never encountered such budget-friendly rates without deflating caveats attached, like sudden price hikes or hidden fees. There’s none of that here, just genuinely low rates backed by the best policy customers could ask for.
“It never lags, the price is great, and it’s a wonderful service.”

Looking deeper into the plans reveals just how good Optimum customers have it. Optimum’s speeds start at 300Mbps for only $25 per month, which is enough speed for a household of three to four people to comfortably stream, download, and browse simultaneously without any bottlenecks. Going up to $35 per month gets you 500Mbps speeds: an ideal speed for the majority of American households. Looking at the closest competitors, we see the same speeds going for up to $100 per month. Optimum is also consistent with its low pricing, as even its gig plans are priced extremely low.

Five years of savings
Optimum’s price locks turn an outstanding deal into a real game-changer, as you’ll be able to count on the same price for a full five years; that adds up to a ton of savings when you compare what you’d pay to other providers.
For example, getting a price-locked gigabit plan from Xfinity would cost you $100 monthly compared to Optimum’s $45 per month. That’s an astounding $660 saved annually and a gargantuan $3,300 in savings over five years.
“It’s been consistent. The price is locked and doesn’t change. No complaints.”

HSI 2026 Customer Satisfaction Survey
Comparing Optimum’s 300 Mbps plan ($25 per month) with the average internet introductory pricing in the U.S. (approx. $61.50 per month) reveals $438 of savings in the first year, but it’s the following years that really put the most funds back in your wallet. Most internet plans see significant price hikes after the first year, typically of at least $15 per month or more. When we take price hikes into consideration against Optimum’s five-year price lock, those annual savings go up to $618 for a total of $2,910 of savings over five years for the average internet customer.
The best option for every household
Optimum’s value isn’t limited to a single plan or speed range. Rather, these savings apply to the provider’s entire plan roster, meaning that whatever your internet needs are, your best deal is going to be from Optimum. Whether you’re a small two-person household that just needs a fast connection for the basics or a large family that needs a screaming-fast gig connection for ten simultaneous Netflix streams, Optimum has a deal for you that will save thousands.
How much your household will save with Optimum

| 4–7 people | Optimum 500 Mbps Internet | $564 | $2,820 |
| 5–12 people | Optimum 1 Gig Internet | $420 | $2,100 |

Data fees and installation
Say goodbye to data caps and overage fees because all Optimum plans come with unlimited data, a trend that is, thankfully, becoming more common in the internet space.
Sometimes Optimum may charge an installation fee, but this is often waived for new customers, and if you opt for a self-install, there is no charge.
Regarding equipment, Optimum typically doesn’t charge a gateway fee for the first year, after which there may be a $5 monthly rental fee. If you like the service, which you most definitely will, we’d recommend investing in your own gateway after the first year to save a little extra in the long run.
Cheap and fast internet without any compromises
We want to drive home that Optimum is not watering down its services to meet a price point. These are powerful broadband connections with enough speed for just about anyone. The only difference is you’ll be paying less for your service than you would with another provider.
We’ve demonstrated how low these prices are compared to the competition, but the best part is that those savings won’t evaporate after a 12-month promotional period. You get to hang onto that good deal for a full five years. Optimum’s 2026 internet plan pricing is, by far, the best deal for customers we’ve encountered at HighSpeedInternet.com, period. If Optimum is available in your area, get it; you’ll save thousands.
