Verizon’s Visible Offers Home Internet for $25/mo.
The deal is legit, but you have to pay up front

Verizon’s discount brand, Visible, is offering 5G home internet for $300 per year for prepaid customers.
That works out to just $25 per month, with taxes and fees included. If you don’t want to prepay, the cost increases to $30 per month.
New customers can start for $49.99, and that includes two months of service plus the internet gateway they need to receive service from local cell towers. That gateway is the customer’s to keep, according to a press release about the service.
The Visible offer comes just weeks after one of T-Mobile’s discount brands, MINTernet (by Mint Mobile), kicked off an ad campaign for its own version of 5G home internet bundles.

Visible is framing its offering as “the ultimate moving hack,” saying its home internet gateway ships directly to customers and sets up in minutes.
In comparison, T-Mobile 5G Home Internet is sending its gateway out to new customers via DoorDash, for qualifying customers. It’s leaning hard into its new tagline: “Fast internet, now delivered the fastest.”
Mint Mobile isn’t promising the same fast delivery, but like Visible, it will ship the gateway directly to a customer’s address.
Here’s a look at how plans and prices for 5G home internet compare between the big networks and their discount brands.

You’ll pay the lowest monthly prices for the budget brands, as you might expect, but there are some caveats. You have to prepay for a year at a time for the best rates. Then, your speeds will be deprioritized relative to both home internet traffic and mobile phone traffic on the main network.
Both Mint Mobile and Visible Wireless are mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs), meaning they rent excess capacity from their parent networks.

AT&T Internet Air
AT&T, the other big mobile carrier, also offers 5G home internet with its AT&T Internet Air plan. Its budget brand, Cricket, offers AT&T Internet Air through its website, but without any kind of rebranding.
Earlier this week, AT&T announced that it would apply a $25 monthly discount to qualifying low-income customers on AT&T Internet Air plans, bringing the monthly price as low as $35 per month.
Who can get 5G home internet
5G home internet from each of the major mobile brands works using excess capacity from that brand’s network of cell towers. That means the plans are available nationwide, but only at certain addresses.
If a given provider’s data doesn’t show that it can provide sufficient bandwidth for home internet at your address, you won’t be able to sign up.
Each of the main providers is working behind the scenes to add more capacity to their networks, with techniques that include the following:
- Buying up spectrum licenses
- Slicing the 5G network to create dedicated bands for home internet
- Using artificial intelligence to predict and manage traffic flow in real time
My take: If you don’t qualify, try again in a few months
The growth of 5G home internet is pretty cool, from a few angles. The slicing and AI network management is geeky but nifty, and the savings for budget customers are just what we need in these trying economic times.
Whether you geek out on network management or not, there are a few clear takeaways for the average customer. First, 5G home internet is never going to be as good as fiber or cable, but it’s good enough for a lot of households. Second, even if you can’t get 5G home internet now, there’s a good chance it will be available in the future.
It’s one of the many reasons I recommend shopping for internet service every few months. New customers get the best deals, so you should be a new customer as often as you can!
