Xfinity recently launched Xfinity Shield, an always-on added layer of cybersecurity protection through Xfinity’s gateway and managed through the Xfinity App. Xfinity’s WiFi Shield is included in all internet plans and at no extra cost for customers. Xfinity Shield offers digital and physical layers of protection that automatically detect threats on any device connected to your Xfinity Gateway.
Xfinity customers can also upgrade to Shield Select for $15 per month to get additional security devices and 24/7 support.

Xfinity Shield
Xfinity Shield aims to protect your Wi-Fi using digital protections, physical protections, plus parental controls. Xfinity Shield uses Xfinity CyberSecure to protect any device connected to your Xfinity Gateway from malware, phishing, and hackers. Xfinity Shield includes family settings where parents can manage screen time, set device limits, and organize devices by user.
The most surprising protection Xfinity released is WiFi Motion, which turns Xfinity Gateway devices into motion sensor detectors. WiFi Motion uses home radio frequency signals between devices connected to Wi-Fi and the gateway to detect unexpected activity and sends alerts to account holders.
But if you’re wary of any of these features, don’t fret—you can customize and disable these features in the app. The Xfinity app also offers three protection modes customers can choose from, including Home Watch, Away Watch, and Dark Watch mode.
Xfinity Shield Select
Xfinity customers who want to enhance their home security can opt for Shield Select for $15 per month. Shield Select includes all the features of Xfinity Shield, plus the following.
- Indoor camera
- Door sensor
- Window sensor
- Cloud video storage
- 24/7 urgent response
You can add Xfinity Shield Select to any internet plan or enjoy the base Shield at no extra cost.
