Top CenturyLink home phone plans

CenturyLink started as a home phone company in the 1930s (under the name of Oak Ridge Telephone Company), so it’s not surprising that the company continues to deliver high-quality phone service. However, you won’t find exceptional deals.

Depending on your address, you may qualify for a copper-based landline phone connection or an internet-based VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) connection. You can get bundle discounts if you choose both home phone and internet service from CenturyLink.

CenturyLink home phone pros and cons

CenturyLink offers a high-quality home phone service with crystal clear calling. The price is good if you make many international calls, but there aren’t big savings compared to other internet calling options.

Whether you can get a true dial-up connection versus an internet phone connection from CenturyLink depends on where you live.

Pros

Includes unlimited nationwide long-distance calling

Can be bundled with internet at a discounted rate

Comes with 11 features, including voicemail, caller ID, and 3-way calling

Cons

Has only one plan to choose from

Some pricing info isn’t publicly available

VoIP calling won’t work in power or internet outages

CenturyLink home phone plans

CenturyLink offers only one home phone plan. It includes over a dozen calling features such as voicemail, voicemail to email, caller ID, three-way calling, anonymous call block, and call forwarding.

The basic plan comes with free long-distance calling in the U.S. plus Puerto Rico, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. You also get 500 minutes of call time to Canada, Germany, Mexico, Ireland, and the U.K. every month.

You also get a free device to turn digital signals into analog signals your traditional phone can understand, but the service won’t work in a power or internet outage.

Add-ons for special long-distance calling are available, but you can’t order them online. Start a chat session on the CenturyLink site to find out what’s available.

You can get home phone service from CenturyLink without internet service, but prices aren’t listed publicly. If you’re interested, call +1-855-263-9576.

My verdict on home phone plans

Although CenturyLink phone plans offer excellent sound quality, we can’t recommend it as a standalone residential phone service because we don’t know how much you will have to pay.

It makes more sense to bundle with home internet service, but if you do, you might as well shop around for other internet calling options. Some, like those found on social media sites, are free. Others have no service charge after you pay for equipment, but you will be billed monthly for local taxes.

If you’re looking for a standalone landline phone, we recommend checking out AT&T or Cox. Both offer a similar home phone plan with unlimited long-distance for less than $30 per month.
