After a cable reboot, I lost the sound from my TV hooked up through the cable box. But then when I tested my TV with the connections of a DVD player, the TV did have sound. So It seemed that the problem was strictly with the cable box, but since I had an old TV, I thought maybe the TV was also faulty and no longer able to transmit the sound from the cable box. I did have a new TV to try out possibility. When the cable tech came, he went into the system and tried every which way to get the cable to produce sound to no effect. Then he tried my idea of hooking up the new TV to the old cable box, but he did not disconnect the old TV from it. So in fact, the cable was going into the old TV and also into the new TV and when he made that double connection the sound came back. That way I was able to preserve the cable box with all the recordings that I had on it and will be able to watch it before I swap it in for a new cable box. The tech guy was very industrious and flexible to try every which way to preserve my old cable box with all my recordings.
