T-Mobile is on a shopping spree, having made two recent purchases of fiber internet networks and a deal to acquire mobile phone rival UScellular.
On Thursday, the company finalized its joint purchase of Metronet with the investment firm KKR, growing T-Mobile’s fiber footprint in more than 300 communities in 19 states.
The network Metronet built offers fiber internet access to more than 2.6 million homes and businesses, according to a press release from the coalition. T-Mobile Fiber will assume responsibility for residential customer services, while Metronet will continue to build new infrastructure, maintain the existing network, and install services. Metronet will also continue providing internet service to businesses.
Metronet offers residential fiber internet plans with symmetrical speeds ranging from 150Mbps to 5,000Mbps (5Gbps). Prices range from $29.95 to $109.95 per month and are good for 12 months. Customers are forced to pay a mandatory Tech Assure fee.
In April, T-Mobile finalized its joint venture to take over Lumos Networks. The deal added about half a million addresses across the mid-Atlantic to the T-Mobile Fiber footprint.
“In the months to come, we’ll begin migrating Lumos and Metronet customers to T-Mobile Fiber. As customers are migrated, they can keep their current plan pricing or have the option to switch to one of T-Mobile’s value-packed plans. Once migrated, they’ll get to start enjoying T-Mobile benefits like T-Mobile Tuesdays — weekly exclusive perks and freebies where customers have enjoyed things like deals on dining, gas, and entertainment, as well as free season-long subscriptions to MLB.TV and MLS Season Pass. We’ll keep customers informed every step of the way to ensure a seamless transition.”

How T-Mobile Wireless and UScellular compare
On July 11, 2025, T-Mobile and UScellular announced a plan for T-Mobile to take over customer agreements, certain spectrum licenses and leases, and wireless agreements from UScellular.
The day before, the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice closed an investigation into the proposed merger.
The deal still awaits final regulatory approval, but if it goes through, T-Mobile will add about 4.5 million customers in 21 states to its existing portfolio of 120 million customers.
The T-Mobile media team says they expect the deal to close on August 1, 2025. On July 24, UScellular announced its plans to continue managing 4,400 towers and change its name to Array Digital Infrastructure, Inc.
UScellular offers unlimited wireless service plans starting at $30 per month for a single line, but you can add perks like deals on smartphones and premium data to pay as much as $80 per month (after autopay and paperless billing discounts).
