Utah’s Best (and Worst) Cities for Internet in 2025
Utah’s fastest average internet speeds might not be where you’d expect

How does your city stack up by internet speed, cost, and overall value? In our latest report, we analyzed proprietary internet speed and pricing data from over 80 cities across Utah to find out who’s getting the best bang for their buck.
We ranked Utah cities based on three factors:
- Average monthly internet cost
- Average download speed (in Mbps, or megabits per second)
- Cost per Mbps (monthly cost divided by download speed).
We found that some cities get both high speeds and low prices, while others pay far more for a fraction of the performance.
Before we dive into our specific findings, run a speed test so you have a number to keep in mind, along with your plan’s monthly cost. If your speeds are slow and your prices are high, we can help you find a better internet plan using your zip code.

What are the national averages for internet speeds, cost, and overall value?
We can also compare how Utah’s cities sit with the rest of the nation regarding performance and price.
- National average speed: 214Mbps
- National average cost: $77/mo.
- National average cost per Mbps: Roughly $0.36/Mbps
According to our data, 23 Utah cities beat or meet the national average cost per Mbps—which leaves 55 of the remaining measured cities below average in price for performance.
Overall, Utah ranks #13 in the nation for internet value.

Utah’s best and worst cities for internet value
According to download speeds, cost, and overall value, the top-performing cities in Utah are Murray (370.73Mbps), Hyrum (324.64Mbps), and Woods Cross (337.17Mbps). Utah’s top five cities for great internet value have download speeds near or above 300Mbps for under $0.30 per Mbps.
Fast doesn’t have to mean expensive: Murray stands heads and shoulders above the rest of Utah with average download speeds of 370.73Mbps at only $90.18 per month. That works out to just $0.24 per Mbps, which is a great deal—especially compared to other parts of the state or the rest of the nation.
Further north, the suburban Clearfield and Kaysville areas have speeds reaching nearly 300Mbps, at 291.06Mbps and 295.56Mbps, respectively—all while staying under $0.30 per Mbps. And Lehi, a city in Utah’s tech corridor, boasts average speeds of 255Mbps at only $0.32 per Mbps.

Conversely, in cities like Gunnison, Ephraim, and Fairview, low average download speeds are the norm, ranging from 71.23Mbps in Ephraim to a meager 51.43Mbps in Gunnison.
These low speeds also come at a high cost: The average price for performance of the bottom five cities ranges from $2.32 per Mbps in Manti to nearly $3 per Mbps in Fairview—nearly $2 or more above the national average.
Plus, rural users pay more for less: In Ephraim and Mount Pleasant, internet costs nearly $200 per month—all while getting speeds far below the national average of 214Mbps. Only six rural cities beat the national average cost per Mbps, while the bottom 26 cities for overall value are rural.
Expensive internet doesn’t just strain your wallet—customers stuck with slow, costly plans often face more barriers than those with fast, affordable connections. Daily tasks, like work, school, streaming, gaming, and even accessing healthcare resources, are harder with slow, unreliable, or even no internet service.
If you need to find faster speeds and a better deal, compare internet service providers in your area.
Utah’s fastest and slowest cities for internet speed
Utah’s best-value cities also delivered the fastest internet speeds, showing that affordability and performance often go hand in hand—Murray, Woods Cross, Hyrum, and Kaysville give some of the fastest speeds in the state while being in the top five for value as well.

When comparing shear speeds, Utah ranges from 73% above the national average in Murray (370.73Mbps) to 77% below the national average in Fillmore (48.27Mbps)—that’s more than a sevenfold internet speed gap spread across the state.

While Utah’s fastest internet speeds are largely concentrated in suburban and urban areas along the Wasatch Front, slower speeds tend to be found in more rural parts of Utah, typically south of Lehi.
While northern Utah cities benefit from competitive pricing and faster speeds due to infrastructure investment and dense populations, many rural areas in southern and western Utah face slower connections and limited provider options.
Utah’s most and least expensive cities for internet
Much like the fastest speeds, you’ll find most of Utah’s cheapest internet plans in the northern (and suburban or urban) part of the state, where cities like Syracuse and Roy end up at under $82 per month for internet without dipping below the national speed average.

However, some cities like Hooper and Grantsville may have cheap internet, but it comes at the cost of suboptimal speeds. Still, cheap but slow internet beats internet with high prices and slow speeds.
Across the state, the high cost of internet means far less value for some Utah residents:
- Some cities pay double and get half for internet service: In Helper and Moab, residents pay nearly twice the national average for speeds under 100Mbps.
- Rural Utah pays more for much less: Rural towns such as Fillmore, Ephraim, and Fairview pay 50–150% more than the national average for speeds that are 70% slower than Utah’s top-performing cities.
- The digital divide widens outside the Wasatch Front: While urban and suburban areas along the Wasatch Front enjoy fast, affordable internet, many rural communities pay premium prices for speeds under 100Mbps—limiting access to remote work, streaming, and digital education.

Methodology
To identify internet value across Utah, we analyzed proprietary download speed and pricing data from HighSpeedInternet.com for 80+ cities in the state. We calculated each city’s average monthly internet cost, average download speed, and cost per Mbps by dividing the monthly price by speed. All data was compared against the national average benchmarks of $77 per month and 214Mbps to highlight where Utah cities overperform—or overpay.
