If you get internet service from Xtream by Mediacom and you’re having trouble connecting, start with an internet speed test to see if you’re in an outage.
First, reconnect to your Xtream Wi-Fi. Then, click below.

Latency (ping)

What to look for in your speed test results
If you’re in an Xtream outage, the speed test will say “Loading,” and a light blue circle will spin, but you won’t get any results.
If you get results that show download speeds, upload speeds, and latency, though, you aren’t in an outage.
You could still be having problems, of course. Ideally, you should get speeds reasonably close to what your plan promises, but you need the following for a healthy fiber or fixed wireless connection:
- Download speeds of at least 20Mbps
- Upload speeds of at least 5Mbps
- Latency of less than 100 ms

How to troubleshoot Xtream connection issues
If you get stuck on “Loading” on the speed test above, go through the steps below one by one.
Step 1: Try logging into your Mediacom network with a different device, such as a gaming console, smart TV, or smartphone. Try both Wi-Fi and Ethernet connections.
Step 2: Check your Mediacom router. A solid white light means you’re connected, a blinking white light means the system is setting up, and a red light means no connection.
Step 3: Check your Ethernet and power cables to make sure they are connected securely and haven’t been damaged.
Step 4: Restart (or unplug and reboot) your affected devices and your router. A full reset usually takes about 10 minutes.
Step 5: Check your MediacomConnect MobileCare app or Xtream account for any billing issues or outage-related notifications.
Check the lights on your Eero router

Xtream offers Eero internet routers and mesh extenders to its cable internet customers. Your model depends on where you live, when you signed up, and which plan you chose.
Most models feature a tiny status light on the front of the router. Here’s how to make sense of the lights, according to the manufacturer:

If you’re in an internet outage, your Eero router will show a red light. If you’re in a power outage, there will be no light at all.
Note: Some Xtream customers may have gateways or routers from other manufacturers, or they may be using their own equipment. If you don’t have an Eero, check out our router troubleshooting guide.

Does Xtream offer refunds?
Mediacom doesn’t typically offer refunds for internet outages, whether they’re scheduled or unscheduled, according to its residential customer user agreement. However, you can call and ask about a pro-rated refund for outages that last 24 hours or more.
This policy is typical of the internet providers we cover, but we don’t love it. Outages can be highly disruptive, and refunds should be automatic.
That said, we like Mediacom’s 90-day money-back guarantee.

How Xtream compares
Xtream, powered by Mediacom, offers cable internet service in several states, plus fiber internet and fixed wireless internet in a few areas. Cable internet is fast and reliable, and infrastructure in some areas is being updated with what Mediacom calls 10G technology. Some areas may have older infrastructure, though, or you could have problems with the cables and equipment in your home.
Xtream is typically the fastest provider in areas it serves, but it raises prices after the first year or two of service.
Xtream vs. AT&T: Mediacom offers cable internet primarily, while AT&T offers both fixed wireless internet and fiber internet, so your choice depends on what you can get where you live. Mediacom charges more for speeds suitable for the average family, but its cable speeds are faster and more reliable than AT&T Air. If you can get AT&T Fiber, though, you probably should.
Xtream vs. CenturyLink: Xtream’s cable internet is almost always a better bet than DSL internet from CenturyLink. However, CenturyLink may offer fiber internet in some areas, and it won’t hike your prices after the first year or two of service like Xtream might. If you can get CenturyLink Fiber, I think you’ll like it.
Xtream vs.T-Mobile 5G Home Internet: T-Mobile offers 5G home internet service in areas where it has excess capacity on its cell towers, so you might be able to choose T-Mobile instead of Xtream cable internet. In most cases, Xtream is going to be faster and more reliable, but T-Mobile can be cheaper if you bundle with mobile phone plans. If your Xtream connection is consistently giving you trouble, T-Mobile home internet may be worth a try.

My take: Contact Xtream if you have service issues
Xtream outages are rare, but it’s easy to contact customer service by calling +1-844-937-3676. When I called, I got connected to a real human right away. If you’re having issues with your connection, we recommend calling for help rather than jumping to a new internet provider.
That said, fiber internet is almost always a better option than cable internet, and 5G home internet is improving all the time. If you have consistent problems with your Xtream connection or if you can’t handle price hikes, it might be time to consider an alternative provider.
