Depending on which Salt Lake City neighborhood you call home, you may have many options when it comes to internet service.

Through Centurylink Prism, people in certain Salt Lake City neighborhoods enjoy access to high-speed cable internet. A small part of southern Glendale is within the fiber network.

DSL service through CenturyLink is much more widely available, reaching all of Salt Lake City. The coverage area reaches Westpointe in the west, Greater Avenues in the east, Capitol Hill in the north, and Sugar House in the south.

Local cable provider Xfinity covers most of Salt Lake City, excluding part of Greater Avenues in the University of Utah area.

With a growing service area, UTOPIA is well established in Salt Lake City. Service is available in the northeastern communities of Greater Avenues and Capitol Hill, as well as central neighborhoods like People's Freeway and Liberty Wells. Worst customer service I have ever experienced. They sent my refund to a Visa card I never had. I spent hours trying to get it corrected. You can't contact a live agent without going through their chat line being transferred from one person to another. Finally got help from a live person who was very kind and tried to help, but she had to communicate electronically with the billing department which denied her her request to cancel the payment to the wrong Visa card and get me my refund. They wore me down and I finally gave up.

They raise rates without notifying you and arbitrarily. You have to constantly call them to bring your rates back down to the normal level.

Last week, a customer asked us to increase our bandwidth on our FTP server and I called UBB and they had a crew here the next day to take care of it. I highly recommend them.

HighSpeedInternet.com compares internet providers within cities and metro areas to give customers the most relevant insights into their internet options. When comparing providers, we consider the following:

  • Provider coverage areas 
  • Advertised speeds 
  • Real-world speeds (speed test data) 
  • Customer feedback
  • Other relevant localized data

We source localized coverage data displayed on our coverage maps from the FCC coverage database, which is updated every six months. For the most current summary of providers in your area, we recommend you use our zip code search tool, which offers the most recent coverage data straight from internet service providers (ISPs).

Our city overviews compare advertised provider speeds. We may also include real-world speed data gathered from millions of annual speed test results. To process our speed test data, we first filter out outliers and providers with low test counts. We then calculate speed averages with every ISP subject to the same parameters.

We gather ISP customer feedback data from our comprehensive annual surveys and direct customer feedback submitted to HighSpeedInternet.com. Unless stated otherwise, average ratings are calculated nationally.
