Frequently Asked Questions

What is AT&T Fiber?

AT&T Fiber is the company’s fiber-optic internet service. Speeds range from 100 Mbps up to 1,000 Mbps, which allows you to quickly do pretty much anything online like downloading HD movies and uploading high-quality pictures.

How much is AT&T Internet?

Prices for AT&T Internet range from $40 per month for the most basic DSL service to $90 per month for a 1,000 Mbps fiber connection. These prices are good for 12 months with a one-year service agreement.

How much is Xfinity by Comcast internet?

Comcast Xfinity internet prices start at $39.99 per month for the starter plan and go up to $89.99 per month for the 1,000 Mbps Gigabit plan. There’s also a 2,000 Mbps Gigabit Pro package available in select areas that costs $299.95 per month (for hardcore speed demons only).

How much is Xfinity by Comcast Wi-Fi?

Xfinity Wi-Fi is included with your regular Xfinity service (service prices start at $39.99 per month). Aside from the usual equipment rental fee (about $11 per month), there is no extra charge for setting up a Wi-Fi network. Xfinity routers also come with a built-in public hotspot that any Xfinity subscriber can use at no additional cost.

What is broadband?

Broadband refers to internet service that meets certain speed requirements set up by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The minimum broadband speeds are 25 Mbps for download and 3 Mbps for upload.

What is DSL?

DSL (digital subscriber line) is a type of internet service that sends data through phone lines. But unlike dial-up, you can still use the phone while you’re online. AT&T DSL speeds range from 5 Mbps up to 100 Mbps, depending on the plan and provider. That means some DSL packages qualify as broadband internet but not all of them.

What is fiber-optic internet?

Fiber internet uses fiber-optic cables to send data. These cables are made of really thin glass (about as thick as a human hair) and are bundled together. The data is sent as pulses of light through these glass cables. Fiber connections are often faster than other types of internet (reaching speeds up to 1,000 Mbps), though this isn’t always the case—cable can be just as fast in some areas.

Nashville Residential Internet Coverage

The two biggest Nashville internet providers are AT&T and Xfinity. We should also mention Viasat satellite internet, which is available nationwide. Because satellite tends to be more expensive than other options, it’s usually a better choice for rural folks and frequent travelers like RVers. But if you’re in one of the few Nashville areas without decent broadband coverage, it can be a lifesaver.

AT&T covers basically the entire city of Nashville, offering both fiber and DSL service. Coverage runs from Baxter Road all the way down to Edmonson in the south, and from Whites Bend to Tulip Grove in the east. Speeds up to 1,000 Mbps are available, which is more than enough to keep your household happy.

Xfinity is the other big internet provider in Nashville, covering most of the metro and suburban areas. The only major area without Xfinity coverage is in the city center, near the Fisk neighborhood. Xfinity speeds in Nashville are a little slower than AT&T, with up to 100 Mbps available. Unless you’re really into high-bandwidth activities like online gaming or downloading movies, 100 Mbps should be plenty of speed.

Areas south of Woodycrest also have access to service from United Telephone Company, a smaller provider. Speeds up to 6 Mbps are available. That’s not much, but it could be an economic option for those who don’t need a lot of speed.

If you’re looking for cable TV to go with your internet, AT&T and Xfinity both bundle internet with TV. And AT&T and Xfinity are some of the best TV providers in Nashville. Xfinity offers a great cable TV service, while AT&T offers bundles with DIRECTV satellite TV, the best TV service for sports fans.

Cancelled my service as I was moving to a condo that no longer offered AT&T as a choice. I told the person on the phone to cancel my service as of the 23rd of the month. She told me I would be receiving 13 days of credit but instead they charged me the full amount for services I did not use and was not even available to me to use. At least when other companies do this they tell you that the service will be still available to you until the cycle ends. And don't tell you that a credit will be given for anything. I would rather work with an honest company that rips me off and not a dishonest one! I will never go back to this service provider if I can avoid it!!

Horrible service. They will charge you for everything they can. I have never had this crappy of internet and tv service. I get better signal turning off the wifi on my phone and using my own hotspot. People through the phone are no help and have no knowledge if anything. I was never compensated for the weeks of no tv or internet even though the people on the phone promised I would be. The person called to fix the cable was supposed to come from twelve o'clock to three and finally came around six pm, but I had a job to be at so I was not there. He left a very unfriendly message for me, asking where I was. I hate comcast and only have it because where I live it is the only service I can have. Try your best to not choose comcast, it is not worth the time or money to deal with them. Give your money to a company who actually cares about their customers.
