You get superfast speeds with Xfinity
Xfinity ranks fourth in the nation for average speed in our 2025 annual review, falling behind fiber internet providers Brightspeed, Google Fiber, and Verizon. Our rankings are based on speed test averages generated from our proprietary speed test data.
Note that Xfinity provides mostly cable internet and some fiber-to-the-home internet, depending on the area. Xfinity is currently upgrading its hybrid fiber-coax networks to push fiber-like symmetrical speeds of up to 6Gbps. Xfinity’s fastest download speed is expected to reach 10Gbps when the upgrades are complete.
That said, Xfinity’s speed rankings can only go up from here as its cable internet options become less distinguishable from fiber.
Xfinity Internet is super-reliable, too
Xfinity ranks sixth in the nation for reliability in our 2025 annual review, falling behind fiber internet rivals AT&T, Google Fiber, and Brightspeed.
What’s important to note is that while Xfinity’s core network is all fiber and Ethernet, the neighborhood networks are mostly still cable TV lines (coax). That means the overall design is less reliable than an all-fiber connection, given how cable internet is designed. The cost of ripping out all the coax for fiber would trickle down to subscribers, so upgrading the existing networks to work with existing cable TV lines keeps prices low.
However, with Xfinity falling so closely behind the likes of AT&T and Google Fiber, Xfinity’s ranking means it’s one of the most reliable cable internet providers in the nation. It outranks Cox, Astound, Spectrum, and Optimum based on our 2025 data.
Unlimited data included at no extra cost
Xfinity now includes unlimited data at no extra cost with all plans, eliminating the need to monitor monthly data usage.
You may have heard that Xfinity previously enforced a 1.2TB data cap on all its internet plans, with unlimited data costing $30 extra per month.
