  • Fiber is less vulnerable to bad weather: Because glass doesn’t conduct electricity, the infrastructure is more resistant to lightning strikes, power surges, and moisture damage that take copper lines down in a storm.

Start by signing up for fiber the moment it’s available at your address. You’ll know buildout is close when trucks start rolling through with big spools of cable on the back, or when you get door hangers and crews asking for access to your property. Keep an eye out for ads and mailers too. Trust me, fiber providers spend a lot of money getting that cable in the ground, and they’ll make themselves known.

While you wait (or even if you already have fiber), get a 5G backup. You have two options:
