It’s a refreshing change from some of the price hikes we’ve seen out there. New customers get an Eero router included at no extra cost, and you won’t see any weird Wi-Fi or infrastructure fees on your monthly bill.

Before you buy, though, you should know about local taxes, how price locks can change, and ways you could still end up owing an early cancellation fee.

Nuances aside, we still think Frontier is a great choice for home internet. And it gets even better: New customers get sweet sign-up perks, plus monthly discounts for bundling a Verizon mobile line and enrolling in autopay and paperless billing together.

What to expect as a Frontier customer

Frontier offers low pricing on fiber internet, and every new fiber plan faster than 500Mbps comes with a premium Eero 7 router included. You can save $10 a month by enrolling in autopay with a bank account—paying by credit card only knocks off $5—and you can skip the $100 installation charge entirely if you sign up for Fiber 1 Gig or faster.

Frontier adds local taxes on top of the service plan price, reserves the right to add or change equipment fees down the line, and your price guarantee disappears if you change your plan or drop a service out of a bundle.

Finally, Frontier’s sign-up perks are real, but accepting them can lock you into a contract. Cancel early, and you could owe an early termination fee; but Frontier doesn’t publish the exact number anywhere in its terms. You’ll also need to pass a credit check, and you may not see the full term agreement, including that fee, until after you’ve already placed the order.

Your first Frontier bill

Your first Frontier bill may run higher than the ones that follow for a few reasons.

First, you’ll be charged a prorated amount for the days you had service before your regular billing cycle kicked in. Second, if you’re on the hook for the $100 installation fee (which is waived if you signed up for Fiber 1 Gig or faster), it’ll land on this bill rather than get spread out. Last, even if you enrolled in autopay, the $10 discount doesn’t always show up right away. It can take a billing cycle or two to kick in, so don’t be surprised if your first bill looks like you’re paying full price.

Your monthly Frontier bill

Your monthly bill for Frontier internet will be fairly straightforward. You’ll see the monthly service plan price, plus any taxes set by your municipality. There are no equipment fees, data overage fees, or weird Wi-Fi or infrastructure fees baked into the base plan, though as we mentioned above, Frontier does reserve the right to introduce fees and charges down the line.

Of course, your monthly bill will include fees for any extras you signed up for at checkout. These are all optional, but they can inflate your bill:

• Netflix & Pro Wi-Fi Bundle: $32 per month plus taxes

Frontier often runs promotions that discount or waive the perks above, but those deals shift too. Read your terms and conditions carefully at checkout, then check your monthly statement to make sure nothing’s changed.

Finally, keep Frontier’s price locks in perspective: They don’t cover equipment fees, so Frontier can start charging for those any time, and the lock itself disappears if you change your plan.

Billing for Frontier mobile and cable TV services

Frontier doesn’t sell its own TV service anymore, but you may be able to get discounts on YouTube TV.

Mobile works differently since Verizon merged with Frontier too. Rather than run its own mobile network, Frontier resells Verizon’s. If you link a Verizon account with your Frontier account, you’ll save $15 per month on your Frontier bill.
