Mediacom guarantees prices for up to five years on its fastest internet plans, with entry-level tiers starting at just $30 per month. It’s some of the lowest pricing we’ve seen anywhere, but it’s available only to new customers.

Once your promo expires, expect your monthly price to go up by between $35 and $55, with an extra $15 monthly charge if you need to lease home networking equipment. It’s a massive price increase on every tier, even if you have your own modem and router.

What to expect as a Mediacom customer

Mediacom treats its customers better than it used to. Its multi-year price locks are a refreshing change, and we love that there are no required contracts or fees for data overages. After your first month, the advertised price is the price you’ll really pay before government taxes.

However, any new customer needs to fully understand the massive price increases that hit once those price locks expire. It’s not just the service plan prices that increase, according to Mediacom’s rate cards. You’ll have to start paying for home networking equipment separately. Depending on which router you have, that will run you $10 to $15 extra per month.

Your first Mediacom bill

Mediacom charges at the beginning of every billing cycle rather than at the end, so you’ll pay for your first month of service plus any activation and installation fees when you order. You’ll also be charged to lease internet equipment (modem + router). You’ll see the line item on your statement, but Mediacom rolls these fees into its advertised prices during your price lock period.

Activation fees are typically assessed at $25, and installation can cost up to $75, but you’ll need to give Mediacom your exact address to know what you’ll be charged.

Below the service plan line items and one-time fees, expect to see government taxes and fees. Unfortunately, Mediacom doesn’t list these fees publicly, and you won’t find them on Mediacom’s broadband labels, even after you enter your exact address. You’ll have to give a legal name plus a driver’s license or Social Security number to see a real bill.

Your monthly Mediacom bill

Your monthly Mediacom bill will be close to advertised prices during the length of your price-locked term. Expect taxes in addition to the service plan price. If you added extras like mesh extenders or Advance Security Protection, you’ll see those monthly charges as well.

There are several ways to pay your Mediacom bill, but you can get $10 off per month if you sign up for autopay and paperless billing. Once you’re enrolled, Mediacom says it will notify you prior to the due date but doesn’t clarify where you’ll receive that notification.

I recommend keeping an eye on your bank account, the inbox of the email you used to sign up, and your Mediacom account online. You can access it using a browser or the MediacomConnect MobileCare app.

Billing for Mediacom mobile and cable TV services

Mediacom offers mobile phone, TV, and home automation services in addition to its internet plans, and each comes with fees beyond advertised service plan prices. What you actually pay depends on whether you’re renting equipment, which TV packages you choose, and more. Mediacom bills for all its services at the beginning of the month, but you may have to hand over your personal info before you can see your actual rates.

All these extra fees are a pain, but there’s a bright spot with Mediacom’s Mobile offerings: After a $10 activation fee per line, monthly taxes and fees are included in the service plan price. Better yet, you can get a discount of up to $30 per month on your internet bill by adding mobile. Each line nets you a $10 monthly discount, up to three lines.

Here’s how post-promo pricing compares if your rate lock were to expire today. Be aware that Mediacom may change its standard pricing at any time, though. Its plans and prices could change entirely by the time your price lock expires.

In addition to the higher rates, post-promo customers may have to start paying to use networking equipment. Expect differences based on your exact address, but here’s a list of equipment lease fees from Mediacom’s 2026 rate card:

• Advanced WiFi 6: $10
• Advanced WiFi 6 Plus: $15
• Advanced WiFi 7: $15
• Additional Advanced WiFi 7 devices: $10 each, per month

Mediacom may also assess a $49 WiFi Certification fee and a $49 trip fee, but details are hard to come by. Official documentation says only that these fees are waived on the WiFi 6 Plus option.

How to save money on Mediacom Internet

The best ways to save with Mediacom are to choose the right plan, bundle with mobile, and contact Mediacom to ask for a new deal when your price lock promo rate expires.

After your promo period expires, you may be able to save by using your own home networking equipment, but you’ll need both a compatible router and your own modem (or a good combo gateway). Shop budget routers and do the math before you decide to invest, because the breakeven point may not arrive for several months.
