Is Astound Down?

Find out if you're in an Astound outage, and get tips on getting back online fast

If Astound is your internet provider and you’re having trouble connecting, start with an internet speed test to see if you’re in an outage.

First, reconnect to your Astound network. Then, tap or click below.

What to look for in your speed test results

If you’re in an Astound outage, the speed test above either won’t load or will say “Loading,” and a light blue circle will spin. Either way, you won’t see any results.

If you get results that show any download speeds, upload speeds, and latency, though, you aren’t in an outage.

You could still be having problems, of course. Ideally, you should get speeds reasonably close to what your plan promises. Regardless of your plan, here’s what you need for a healthy fiber or fixed wireless connection:

  • Download speeds of at least 20Mbps
  • Upload speeds of at least 5Mbps
  • Latency of less than 100 ms

How to troubleshoot Astound connection issues

If you get stuck on “Loading” on the speed test above, go through the steps below one by one.

Step 1: Try connecting to your Astound network with a different device, such as a gaming console, smart TV, or smartphone. Try both Wi-Fi and Ethernet connections.

Step 2: Check your Astound wireless router. A solid white light indicates a healthy connection, and a red light signifies no internet connection.

Step 3: Check your Ethernet and power cables to make sure they are connected securely and haven’t been damaged.

Step 4: Restart (or power cycle) your affected devices and your router. A full reset usually takes about 10 minutes.

Step 5: Check your My Astound app or log into your Astound account to check for billing or outage-related notifications.

To diagnose an outage with your Eero equipment from Astound, check the status light on the front of the device: A solid white light indicates a healthy connection, while a red light signifies that the system has lost its internet connection. If the light is off entirely, check your power cables to ensure the device is securely connected to a working power source.

How Astound compares

If you’re dealing with frequent Astound outages, it might be time to find a new internet provider. Here’s what you need to know.

Astound is about average for reliability, its customers tell us. The provider earned an 8.42 Reliability score in our 2026 Annual Internet Service Provider Review, beating Xfinity but falling behind Verizon. You’ll also find competitive pricing, including a lifetime price lock on plans of 1Gbps or higher. Just keep in mind that rates may increase after 12 months on slower plans, and there’s a $10 monthly fee for extra Wi-Fi nodes, if you need them. A standard modem and router setup is included free on all plans.

Here’s how Astound compares to other options in its footprint:

Astound vs. T-Mobile 5G Home Internet: Astound’s fully wired internet is more reliable than T-Mobile 5G home internet’s fixed wireless setup, and you’ll pay less for Astound in the first year.

Astound vs. Xfinity: You’ll pay less for gigabit speeds with Astound than you would with Xfinity, but Astound’s reliability scores were slightly higher. Contracts aren’t required from either provider, so keep an eye on monthly internet deals to see if you can get rewarded for signing up.

Astound vs. Starlink: Astound is cheaper than Starlink, and its speeds are more reliable. In almost all cases, stick with Astound. If you’re having a lot of outages or dealing with billing issues, contact customer support.

A note on Astound’s ownership history

Astound didn’t start as one company. RCN, Grande Communications, Wave Broadband, enTouch, and Digital West were separate regional providers. In January of 2022, they converged under the Astound name. Fast forward a few years, and Astound is changing hands again.

In March of 2026, owners announced that Astound would merge with Google’s GFiber. As of the announcement, the merged company hadn’t settled on a new name, so expect another rebrand once the deal closes.

My take: Give Astound a try, but shop again soon

Astound is a decent provider, but it’s not your only option. I always recommend shopping for internet at least once a year. Prices and terms are better than they’ve been in years, and you can often land a great deal just for switching.

Knowing your options puts the power back in your hands. Use our zip code lookup tool to get started.
