Philadelphia Residential Internet Coverage

In the city of Philadelphia, fiber Internet is widely accessible through Verizon FiOS. This company’s service area includes key central neighborhoods like Fairmount, Poplar, and Riverfront. The network runs to Byberry in the north and Marconi Plaza in the south. Verizon’s DSL network is also very expansive in this area, reaching all of Philadelphia’s neighborhoods. XFINITY is one of the main cable providers in this area, covering all of Philadelphia and extending beyond the city limits to surrounding communities. RCN has a slightly more limited service area that includes the eastern coastal neighborhoods of Riverfront, Fishtown, and Pennsport. Part of Eastwick in the far west is also in the RCN service area. Through Level 3 Communications, those in many of Philadelphia’s key neighborhoods enjoy reliable Internet access. Service stops short of Kensington and Richmond in the coastal part of the city, as well as Grays Ferry and Girard Estates in the west. However, most central and eastern neighborhoods are within the Level 3 Communications service area. Most of Philadelphia is in the Megapath service area, although there is a slight gap in coverage in Fairmount and Spring Garden. The network of TOAST.net runs to the city limits in all four directions. The coastal neighborhoods of Pennsport, Riverfront, and Fishtown are part of the Cogent Communication network.

Customer Reviews of Internet Providers in Philadelphia

My internet has been fast, without lagging. I have never had problems with my internet dropping or any difficulty with streaming videos from netflix or streams of football games.

I have had FiOS for over a year now with no problems. The speed is excellent, and it never cuts out. Unlike Comcast, I pay for a certain speed and actually have close to it.

Living in a house with multiple devices, the internet speed is only good if you are right next to the router. Also if one person is streaming a video, no one else can use the internet or it will slow down the streaming. I work from home and it is very difficult to have to work in the same room where everyone is watching TV just because that is where the router is.

Overall I'm very happy with the service from Comcast. I've had only a few minor issues while having their service for over fifteen years now. Except for the price, I really can't complain about them.

I don't really have a problem with the actual service that I am receiving from Comcast and I love supporting a Philadelphia based company. My big concern with them, as most people, is their customer service. The professionalism on the phone when dealing with customers is sub par at best.

I enjoy my service and the price can not be beat by the "BIG" guys. No more bundles are me, I can do better by breaking eveything up.

We have had to make several service calls to Verizon Fios. Each time they were willing to come out even on a holiday to help us with the issues we were having.

We recently changed are provider because of the cost and terrible service. We are better satisfied with the service from Verizon Fios! Customer service is so much easier and better than the one we had. Verizon treats their customers like they would want to be treated. Thank you Verizon for making us your satisfied customer!

Comcast gives me reasonably good internet with variable speed at what we consider a high price. The speed seems to vary according to the time of day.

I like Verizon Fios because one plan covers our WiFi, television/cable connections, and telephones. The service is great...when it works. There have been several times when the internet connection has been lost, requiring a service technician to come out and reset whatever was not working. However, Verizon is quick about providing service, even during holidays.
